Terms & Conditions

You must be at least 18 years old to use Karak Today. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet this requirement. This is consistent with our Privacy Policy and applicable UAE law, including Wadeema’s Law on child protection.

Karak Today is free to use. There are no payments, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. Through the Service, you can:

• Browse an interactive map of food spots, searchable by emirate and neighborhood.
• Save spots and create or save lists.
• Check in to spots and leave a rating.
• Submit a spot nomination via /nominate, whether or not you’re signed in.
• Subscribe to our newsletter.

Browsing is available without an account. Saving spots, checking in, contributing as a Hunter, and other personalized features require signing in (see Section 3).

We may add, change, or remove features at any time without notice.

You can sign in via Google OAuth or via a one-time code sent to your email address. We do not create or store passwords. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account, your email account, and any sign-in codes, and for all activity that occurs under your Karak Today account. Notify us promptly at support@karak.today if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to access and use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. Any other use requires our prior written permission.

When you submit content to Karak Today — including photos, spot submissions, curated lists, ratings, check-in notes, nominations, and reports (“User Content”) — the following applies.

License you grant us

You grant Karak Today a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, sublicensable license to host, store, display, reproduce, adapt, and distribute your User Content, including for use on the platform and in our marketing materials. This license is necessary for us to operate the Service — for example, displaying your photos on a spot’s listing page.

If you submitted content as a Karak Hunter, that content (such as a spot listing, photo, or rating that contributes to a Hunter Score) may remain visible on the public map and in listings even after you delete your account, consistent with our Privacy Policy.

Your representations

By submitting User Content, you confirm that:

• You own the content or have all necessary rights and permissions to submit it.
• Your content does not infringe any third party’s intellectual property or other rights.
• Your content is accurate, truthful, and not misleading to the best of your knowledge.

Prohibited content and conduct

You agree not to:

• Post spam, fake, or paid listings, or otherwise manipulate listings or ratings.
• Harass, threaten, or impersonate other users or third parties.
• Post illegal, defamatory, or otherwise unlawful content.
• Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to extract data from the Service.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Service.
• Abuse the nomination or reporting forms (e.g., submitting false reports or spam nominations).
• Attempt to circumvent rate limits or other technical protections.

Moderation

We may, at our sole discretion, edit, remove, refuse to publish, or take other moderation action on any User Content, and may suspend or restrict accounts for violations of these Terms, without prior notice.

Karak Hunters are invited contributors who scout, vet, add, and photograph food spots, and who curate lists for the community.

• No compensation. Participation in the Hunter program is unpaid. Hunters are recognized through status and early access to features, not monetary or in-kind payment. Nothing in the Hunter program creates an employment, agency, partnership, or contractor relationship between you and Karak Today.
• Discretionary status. Hunter status is granted and may be revoked by Karak Today at any time and for any reason, at our sole discretion.
• Hunter Scores and ratings.As part of their contributions, Hunters assign a “Hunter Score” and verdict to the spots they review. These scores reflect the Hunter’s individual assessment and are part of the User Content covered by Section 4 — they are not a score or status assigned to the Hunter themselves, and confer no ownership or entitlement.

Listing accuracy

Spot details — including opening hours, locations, menus, and descriptions — are community-sourced and may be inaccurate, outdated, or incomplete. Please verify details (especially opening hours and locations) directly with the venue before visiting.

No endorsement; “as is”

Recommendations, ratings, and reviews on Karak Today reflect the opinions of individual Hunters and community members. Karak Today does not endorse, guarantee, or take responsibility for the quality, safety, legality, or availability of any venue listed on the Service.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Third-party services and links

The Service relies on and may link to third-party services, including Mapbox (maps), Google Places (location data), and Cloudinary (image hosting), and may reference external venues and their information. Karak Today is not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of these third parties, or for any outages or issues arising from them.

Karak Today owns all rights, title, and interest in and to the Service, including its brand, name, logo, design, software, and compiled data (such as the aggregated database of spots, ratings, and Hunter Scores), excluding User Content. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership of these assets to you. You may not use Karak Today’s name, branding, or logo without our prior written permission.

To the maximum extent permitted under UAE law, Karak Today and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, Karak Today’s total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Service is limited to the maximum extent permitted by that law.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Karak Today and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your User Content, your violation of these Terms, or your misuse of the Service.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, including your account, at any time and for any reason, including violation of these Terms, without prior notice.

You may delete your account and associated data at any time through your account settings or by contacting support@karak.today. Account deletion is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the Service, legal requirements, or our practices. We will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Dubai.

Our collection and use of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms by reference. Please review it to understand how we handle your data.
